US Army selects Nexor Unix Client and Microsoft Exchange for Army Battle Command System

August 2001

Nottingham, UK, August 2001 - Nexor, a leading supplier of secure messaging and directory systems, announced that it has been selected to provide a militarised Unix messaging client to the US Army to enhance the Army Battle Command System (ABCS). The solution, Nexor Defender for Motif, was developed in partnership with Microsoft to meet the security standards required by the Department of Defense secure Defense Messaging System (DMS), and is being procured from the Nexor GSA Schedule.

Nexor Defender for Motif enables a Unix workstation to serve as a client to Microsoft Exchange over IMAP. It has the 'look and feel' of Outlook, giving the user a familiar and consistent environment with no need for retraining. This will enable the army to maintain its current investment in Sun Solaris battlefield workstations, while gaining the highly secure email facilities it requires. The product has undergone extensive interoperability tests at Microsoft's DMS facilities in Redmond, Washington.

'The army will enjoy significant savings with this implementation of Nexor Defender for Motif,' said Tim Dioquino, DMS Product Manager for Microsoft Federal. 'The Unix battlefield workstation environment has been a considerable investment that our joint solution leverages. We are delighted that our partnership with Nexor has proved so successful and gained Microsoft a strong foothold in the ABCS software applications environment.'< /p>

Nexor developed Defender for Motif within demanding timescales to meet the US Army's requirements. The decision to procure the solution followed a pilot demonstration where Nexor proved itself capable of providing the levels of functionality needed.
