Messaging System Testing

All email systems are underpinned by operational policies that define how the system should behave when transferring messages between individuals, departments and organisations. These policies incorporate various parameters, for example:

  • Constraints such as message size or attachment types
  • Service level agreements
  • Interoperability rules including content and protocol conversions
  • Security controls in the form of virus scanning

Today, many organisations also need to include enhanced security policy parameters such as interpreting and converting security labels between disparate parties. In particular, military and government organisations operating at high security levels may be working with more specialised protocols, for example, ACP142 or X.400, and strict security classifications that require sophisticated approaches to achieve the desired levels of interconnection between domains and environments.
