Data Migration

Business applications require repositories of user data to provide both configuration information and application authentication. Typically, these data repositories are either enterprise LDAP directories or application databases. They are often fed from a master database such as an HR system.

During times of technology refresh, it will be necessary to migrate this data to new systems. In large scale enterprise roll-outs there are excellent tools available to manage the data migration; these often form part of identity management systems, provisioning systems or meta-directories. However, there are situations where these tools do not provide a cost effective solution.
