Knitting databases of this nature together is very much in line with the theme of “dare to share”, as opposed to previous policies of “share if you must”. This new willingness to share has to be treated with caution however — strong and robust sharing policies, backed by technological controls will be required to prevent problems caused by increased classification of data caused by aggregation.

This is an area Nexor is undertaking detailed research in — how do you maintain original security labels on documents, where labels are not supported in the native document formats, as the document traverses networks with heterogeneous software implementations.

Head of Research and Technology at Nexor, Andrew Kays, was invited to join a panel at the ISSD Conference on 20th and 21st May to share his personal experiences and the business benefits of CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional) certification. The conference and the certification programme are run by (ISC)2. Andrew was one of the first people in the UK to qualify.

May 2010

Nexor has recently received support and assistance from the University of Nottingham’s Environmental Technology Centre in developing a draft Environmental Policy which is specifically tailored to reflect Nexor’s business. The University provided information on what an environmental policy should contain and gave specific advice on developing a simple but effective framework on which performance can be monitored. Nexor is continuing to work on its Environmental Policy and is incorporating this into the wider context of a Corporate Responsibility Policy.
